Nine Prosecuted Following Post-Protest Gathering in Tirana, Police Say
Albanian police have initiated criminal proceedings against nine individuals following a protest in Tirana on Saturday, accusing them of unlawfully remaining in a central boulevard after the demonstration had officially ended.
According to a statement from Tirana Police, the individuals continued to occupy the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard after 10:00 p.m., exceeding the notified duration of the gathering. Authorities said their actions obstructed vehicle traffic and disturbed public order.
Police alleged that the group occupied public space by placing metal chairs and other objects along the boulevard. Despite repeated requests from officers to clear the area and comply with legal regulations, the individuals reportedly refused to leave.
The nine citizens have been placed under criminal investigation while remaining at liberty. Police also said efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may have been involved in alleged unlawful actions during the gathering.
The case files will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction. The individuals are being investigated on allegations of obstructing transportation traffic, disturbing public peace, and organizing or participating in unlawful assemblies, according to the police statement.
