Socialist MP Responds to Rama, Defends Call for ‘New Agreement for Albania’
Socialist Party lawmaker Elisa Spiropali has issued a pointed response to Prime Minister Edi Rama following remarks he made during an expanded meeting of the party’s parliamentary group.
A day earlier, Rama referred to what he described as “lost souls” within the Socialist Party who were calling for a “new agreement,” adding that such a proposal would never materialize.
Spiropali responded publicly, reaffirming her support for what she called a “New Agreement for Albania” and outlining her vision for the country’s future.
“Yes, we will have the New Agreement for Albania,” she wrote, arguing that the country should become “more open, more just, more meritocratic and more European.”
The Socialist lawmaker also stressed the need for internal reform within the ruling party, saying the Socialist Party must find the strength to renew itself, become more dynamic, democratic and united, and remain free from what she described as stagnation and political opportunism.
“To achieve this, the Socialist Party must gather its strength, reflect, cleanse itself and become more dynamic, more democratic and more cohesive,” Spiropali said.
She concluded by calling for a broad and meaningful reform agenda, arguing that political leaders must improve themselves before they can improve the country.
The exchange is the latest sign of growing debate within the Socialist Party over its future direction and internal renewal ahead of upcoming political challenges.
