No Power Cuts Foreseen; Balluku
Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said on Tuesday that the price of electricity for Albanian citizens will not increase, while she assured that there will be no energy restrictions either.
During a meeting with energy administrators, as part of the plan for saving measures in public institutions, Balluku said that one of the reasons why Albania has maintained the lowest level of inflation in the Balkans is precisely because of the energy price has not changed.
As for the 800 kilowatt consumption limit for maintaining unchanged prices, the deputy PM said that it is studied by analysts that this is the necessary consumption for an average family with 4-5 members, taking into account the family activities and the efficiency measures.
The minister appealed to the leaders of state institutions to save energy, as she recalled that there will be penalties in the Normative Act approved by the government.
"The Albanian government has long since launched a whole program related to the social shield for family subscribers, small businesses and those connected to the medium voltage. We started it from September 2021, when the price crisis started," said Balluku during a meeting with energy administrators, as part of the plan of energy saving measures.
According to Balluku, 70% of the necessary energy is produced in Albania in the best hydrological years, the rest is imported.
The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the state budget has always had to subsidize this sector. On the other hand, she noted that there have been significant achievements.
"In 2013, losses in the network were 45%, almost half of the amount produced and imported. Meanwhile, today the losses are below the level of 20%. There has been significant progress also in terms of billing," she said.
Balluku also focused on the Normative Act that charges energy administrators with the obligation to save up to 15% of the previous year's bill.
Balluku noted that the power saving will serve to subsidize 1.9 million family subscribers and small businesses and those connected to medium voltage. According to her, the process will be followed by the Taskforce.
