PM Rama Says Government Is Listening to Peaceful Protesters' Concerns
Prime Minister Edi Rama said his government is listening carefully to the concerns raised by peaceful protesters, while rejecting accusations that he has attacked citizens participating in the demonstrations.
In a message posted on social media, Rama said critics had falsely accused him of targeting people who had taken to the streets. Using a series of metaphors, he said he distinguishes between peaceful demonstrators and those he believes are exploiting the protests for political purposes.
"I have never judged the citizens who came out to protest peacefully because they want a better-protected environment," Rama said. "Nor can I judge people who want a fairer state. Society is always asking for more."
The prime minister said the government is closely monitoring the protesters' demands and that a dedicated working group has been tasked with documenting every concern raised during the demonstrations.
"Step by step, we will communicate with the ordinary, honest people of this country," Rama said, adding that the government intends to address the issues through ongoing dialogue.
