Police Launches Criminal Proceedings Against 23 Protest Participants After Tirana Rally
Albanian police have initiated criminal proceedings against 23 individuals following a protest held outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Tirana on Tuesday, authorities announced.
According to the Tirana Police Directorate, investigations conducted after the gathering found that several participants allegedly organized and directed demonstrators in a manner that disrupted the free movement of vehicles on multiple roads across the capital, deviating from the route that had been previously notified to authorities.
Police said the individuals are being investigated on suspicion of organizing and participating in unlawful gatherings, disturbing public order and peace, and obstructing transportation routes.
Authorities added that efforts are continuing to identify and prosecute other individuals believed to have been involved in the alleged violations.
In a separate development linked to the protest, a citizen identified by the initials R.M. filed a complaint with Police Station No. 2 in Tirana on June 17, alleging that he was threatened by another individual, identified as G.P., during the June 16 demonstration.
According to the complaint, the dispute arose after the publication of a video on social media that allegedly showed G.P. preventing citizens from speaking at the protest podium. The complainant stated that remarks made by G.P. were perceived as threatening and that both he and his wife felt intimidated by the incident.
Police said G.P. was questioned and acknowledged approaching the complainant to seek clarification regarding the video posted on social media.
The case has been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further legal review and investigative actions.
