President Receives Dendias, Sees Albania-Greece Relations as Priority
President of the Republic, Ilir Meta received Tuesday in meeting Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, where he pronounced that Albania-Greece relations are among the main priorities of Albania’s foreign policy.
The Head of State stressed that these relations must continue to develop in the spirit of good neighborliness, linked by strategic interests, close partnership in NATO, common European perspective and economic interests of both countries.
Meanwhile, President Meta expressed gratitude for Greece's continued support to Albania's European perspective, as a national and strategic goal.
Furthermore, the President assessed that the Greek minority in Albania is a strong bridge for our long friendship and together with the Albanians living in Greece constitute the foundations of our healthy and long-term relations.
Also, President Meta expressed gratitude for the solidarity and support of Greece in the case of the earthquake of November 26, 2019, as well as for cooperation regarding the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When it comes to the issue of delimitation of maritime space between the two countries, the President of the Republic stressed that he has encouraged and will encourage it to be addressed through a sincere dialogue and mutual respect, aiming at a permanent and lasting solution.
"Agreement on this important issue must be in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, with the legislation of the two countries and the Decision of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania", underlined President Meta.
