Prime Minister Edi Rama Warns of Action Against Violence Ahead of Planned Protests

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Interior Minister Ervin Demo, addressed the media shortly before protests scheduled for today, acknowledging public concerns over the rising cost of living while warning of strict consequences for those involved in violence.

Rama said the government remains focused on addressing the concerns of citizens facing increasing living costs and stressed the importance of dialogue with those calling for a more aggressive government response.

“The goals, reasons, and, above all, the needs behind these protests are an absolute priority for the government,” Rama said, adding that the government would present its response to public concerns “within hours or days.”

He said the administration was prepared to reflect on citizens’ demands and identify ways to make its policies more responsive to their needs.

However, the prime minister issued a strong warning to individuals who promote or engage in violence, saying the state would respond with sustained and determined action.

“Those who glorify violence, encourage it, or engage in it must understand that just as intense, concentrated, and prolonged as the urban terror against businesses and ordinary families was, so too will the state’s response be persistent and prolonged,” Rama said.

Rama also warned against individuals he accused of hiding behind student identities to incite unrest or deepen religious divisions in Albania. He said those responsible would face consequences, including criminal and financial penalties.
