Tensions flared outside Albania's Parliament on Thursday morning after a group of protesters threw eggs at the vehicles of lawmakers and government ministers as they arrived for a plenary session.
Police officers quickly intervened to stop the attacks and detained several protesters at the scene.
Among those escorted by police was Gent Progni, who, according to local media reports, had positioned himself at a café near the Academy of Sciences before allegedly attempting to throw eggs at passing lawmakers and their vehicles.
The café was also occupied by Socialist Party lawmakers Ulsi Manja and Admir Kadeli. During the incident, Progni allegedly shouted insults at the two MPs, calling them "thieves."
The incident came ahead of a parliamentary session marked by heightened political tensions and demonstrations outside the legislature.
