Public Tenders, Govt Seeking to Use AI to Avoid Corruption

The companies that will win the public tenders will not be selected by the people. The government is seeing the opportunity to integrate artificial intelligence in order to avoid corruption and abuses.

The new public procurement law approved in 2020 has made Albania one of the most transparent countries in the public procurement procedure. With this statement, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku shows that the competition is open and equal for all companies that invest or receive public contracts in the country.

"The legal framework reflects the basic principles of the European Union treaty, for transparency, equal treatment, non-discrimination and value for money. Meanwhile, without a doubt, they recognize free competition, mutuality and proportionality", said Balluku.

To further improve the procurement system, aiming to avoid bureaucracies and corruption, Balluku says that digital variables and artificial intelligence will be used.

"The government has decided as one of its goals, the vision of developing a digitization system for the provision of public services. We intend to use artificial intelligence in the future in order to increase transparency, reduce the risk of corruption and avoid human errors", said Balluku.

At the international open procurement conference, Balluku also spoke about several cases of success in the tender procedure in the field of energy and infrastructure, which have aroused the interest of foreign companies for investments in Albania.
