Reja's Assistant Explains Why AFA Didn't Renew Coach's Contract

Disappointing results in the Nations League were the reason that pushed the Albanian Football Association (AFA) to say goodbye to Edi Reja and start a new chapter with coach Silvinho. This has also been admitted by Sergio Porrini, Reja's right-hand man in the three and a half years in charge of Albania.

The famous former Juventus footballer, speaking for "Il Posticipo", has shown what connected him with Reja and how the years had been in the management of the Albanian National Team.

"With Reja, we are united by the sincerity and trust of the other. We are both people who always say what we think. From the first day I met coach Reja, I felt as if I had known him for 30 years. We have a similar character in the management of the group, we think it is important to train, but at the same time to create a friendly relationship with the players.

Experience in Albania? We experienced a very beautiful experience that lasted three and a half years. We managed to create a united working group on and off the field. The staff consisted of Italians and Albanians, a mixture was created that enabled us to run very well. Unfortunately, the results in the last Nations League were not positive. This prompted the federation to make another choice. Now I'm studying to start again. I'm looking for a bench to come back to and coach first. I am waiting for the right opportunity", said Porrini in his interview.
