Smith Predicts Life Sentence for Thaci

Chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution in Hague, Jack Smith, in a letter addressed to the judge Nicola Guilou lists his arguments why Hashim Thaci must be arrested and sent to pretrial detention.

According to Smith, former Kosovo's President could escape after the unconfirmed indictment was made public. According to him, such a thing would push Thaçi to leave country.

Also in his letter, Smith pretended that Thaci may also commit other crimes and obstruct Special proceedings as he added that if the charges will be confirmed by the Specialized Chambers could lead to life imprisonment for the former president.

"While certain and general data regarding the submitted and unconfirmed indictment have been published, Mr. Thaçi's incentive to flee, to obstruct proceedings and to commit further crimes will increase dramatically," he said.
