Snap Elections in Four Municipalities in North Kosovo
Early local elections are held this Sunday in the four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo: North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposaviq.
Central Election Commission placed containers along the main roads in the north, which will serve as polling stations.
The Kosovo Police said that they have taken all measures for a safe environment during the election process. There are ten candidates in the race, of which only one is from the Serbian community.
She is Slagjana Pantovi?, independent candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Zveçan. Lista Serbe - the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo - does not participate in the elections and called on Serbian citizens to boycott the process. Official Belgrade made similar calls.
The municipalities in the north remained without mayors since November of last year, when the Serbian representatives in that area resigned from their jobs, due to disagreement with a decision of the Government of Kosovo to re-register cars with illegal Serbian license plates.
