Sandër Simoni, Fatri Islamaj and Brunilda Kadi are the newly elected members of the High Judicial Council. 

The race to elect three new members of Albania’s High Judicial Council (KLGJ) has concluded, with Judge Brunilda Kadi securing the third seat.

Kadi, a judge at the Tirana First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction, won a head-to-head race against judges Manjola Xhaxho and Matilda Llangoz. Her election marks a return to the High Judicial Council, where she previously served as a member after being elected in December 2018 as a representative of first-instance courts.

Judge Sandër Simoni of the Supreme Court was elected to the council following a closely contested race that reportedly ended with Simoni and Judge Arbena Ahmeti tied in votes.

The second newly elected member is Fatri Islamaj, a judge at the Court of Appeals of General Jurisdiction. Islamaj received 190 votes, defeating Judge Igerta Hysi, who received 171 votes.

The three newly elected members of Albania’s High Judicial Council are Sandër Simoni, Fatri Islamaj and Brunilda Kadi.

Kadi’s election brings her back to the body responsible for overseeing key aspects of Albania’s judicial system, following her previous tenure on the council.
