Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj is expected to undergo another surgical procedure on his fractured leg following a recommendation by doctors at the Fier Memorial Hospital.

According to available information, medical examinations conducted on Saturday revealed that the fracture requires further surgical intervention.

Concerns over Veliaj’s health have been raised in recent days by his lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, who previously said that a formal request for medical examinations had been submitted nearly two weeks ago to monitor the progress of the mayor’s recovery. However, the examinations had not been carried out at that time.

Veliaj is currently being held in the medical facilities of Fier Prison, where he was transferred several days ago from the detention facility in Durrës. During this period, he has reportedly relied on crutches to move around and has taken pain medication to manage the discomfort caused by the fracture.
