Turkey’s Biggest Crypto Scammer Arrested in Albania
The Turkish citizen, Faruk Fatih Özer, declared wanted for a cryptocurrency scammer who defrauded investors of more than $2.7 billion was arrested Tuesday in Albania.
Özer was in vacation in a touristic area in South of Albania when police handcuffed him, while from days was seen moving around Albania and recently he was resident in neighbourhood ‘5 Maji’ in Elbasan.
Faruk Fatih Ozer was the chair and founder of Turkish cryptocurrency exchange Thodex, which went offline in May 2021, sending account holders into a panic. He was seen leaving Istanbul Airport in April 2021, bound for Albania. Ozer was then spotted in a hotel in Albania but has not been seen since.
The Thodex scam is believed to be the largest con in Turkish history, and some 400,000 people are believed to have fallen victim to him.
