Unemployment Dropped to 8.4% in 2025; INSTAT

The unemployment rate in Albania continued its downward trend in 2025, while the average gross monthly salary increased, according to the latest data published by INSTAT.

According to the report, the country's labor force is estimated at 1,279,906 people, with men accounting for 54.2% and women 45.8% of the total.

The number of employed people reached 1,172,359, marking a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to 2024. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed people is estimated at 107,548.

INSTAT announces that the official unemployment rate for the population over 15 years of age dropped to 8.4%, or 0.1 percentage point less than a year earlier. Unemployment among men was 7.3%, while among women it was 9.7%.

For the 15-64 age group, the unemployment rate was 9.3%, while the labor force participation rate reached 76.3%.

The data show that 69.3% of the population aged 15-64 is employed, 9.3% is unemployed, and 23.7% is economically inactive. According to the report, men continue to have a higher level of inclusion in the labor market. The employment rate for men is 76%, compared to 62.7% for women, creating a gender gap of 13.3 percentage points.

A positive indicator remains the increase in employment among the over-65 age group. The number of employed people in this category reached 130,274, up from 119,862 a year earlier. According to INSTAT, most of them are self-employed in agriculture and are considered employed according to international standards.

The employment structure shows that the services sector remains the largest employer in the country, concentrating 46.9% of the employed, followed by agriculture with 33.8%.
