EU Enlargement and Good Policy Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi welcomed on Tuesday the First Intergovernmental Conference on European Union accession negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia. 

On a social media statement, Varhelyi emphasized that the Western Balkans remains EU's priority in the changing geopolitical environment and this is a big step towards this commitment. 

"We are opening accession negotiations with Albania & North Macedonia. In the changing geopolitical environment, our priority remains the Western Balkans. We are committed more than ever to bring the entire region within the EU. Today we are making a big step towards this commitment", stressed Oliver Varhelyi.
