Wildfire Continues to Burn in Gjinar as Residents Urge Aerial Intervention

A wildfire in the village of Gjinar, in Albania’s Elbasan region, remains out of control as difficult terrain continues to hamper firefighters’ efforts to reach and extinguish all active fire fronts.

Firefighting teams have been battling the flames for several days, but the situation remains challenging. Strong winds and dense vegetation, including large areas of pine forest, are helping the fire spread and making it more difficult to fully contain the blaze.

Residents say the situation has deteriorated on Wednesday, raising concerns that the flames could move closer to homes if the fire continues to spread.

Local residents are calling for aerial assistance, including the deployment of two helicopters or aircraft, to support ground crews and help contain the fire.

The rugged terrain and limited access to some of the affected areas have restricted the movement of firefighting vehicles, leaving several fire fronts still active.

Residents are urging authorities to intensify aerial operations to accelerate efforts to bring the wildfire under control and prevent the flames from reaching nearby homes.

Firefighting crews remain on the ground as efforts to contain the blaze continue.
