144th Anniversary of Prizren League, Albanian Schools with 'Special Subject'

The first lesson of June 10, will be dedicated to the Albanian League of Prizren in all schools of Albania and Kosovo.

This government decision was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama as 144 years since the most important event in the history of Albanians occurred (The Leaguebof Prizren).

"Tomorrow, June 10, when the League of Prizren turns 144 years old, the first lesson in all schools will be dedicated to that day and the history of immortal Albanian connection," delcared Rama.

The League of Prizren was the first large Albanian organized, political and military movement since the period of Skanderbeg. Forced by the specific circumstances of 1878, the Albanians convened a Nationwide Assembly, which aimed at the unification of Albania.

This organization came after the St. Stephen's agreement between Russia and Turkey, where Albania was not granted any territorial rights, and in anticipation of the Berlin congress, which would most likely remove many provinces from the Albanian map. Albanian patriots came up with the idea of this meeting, where they would announce the final separation from Ottoman rule. On June 10, 1878 in Prizren, Kosovo, the Assembly opened its doors to receive the delegates, who would come from the four Vilayets of Albania: Shkodra, Bitola, Ioannina and Kosovo.
