Explosion Reported Near Nikulaj Family Properties in Northern Albania; One Person Questioned

An explosion involving suspected explosive material was reported early Wednesday near properties belonging to the Nikulaj family in the village of Balldren i Vjetër, in northern Albania, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the blast did not cause any injuries. Initial reports indicated that only material damage had been recorded, while police later stated that the explosion occurred in an open area and caused no damage to people or property.

Police units and investigators were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion and identify those responsible.

Local media reported that authorities have detained one suspect for questioning in connection with the case. Investigators are working to determine the individual's role and the possible motive behind the incident.

In an official statement, police said they were notified at approximately 9:55 a.m. that a suspected explosive device had detonated during the early morning hours in an open area of Balldren i Vjetër, Lezhë.

“Police services and the investigative team immediately went to the scene and carried out the first investigative actions,” the statement said.

Authorities confirmed that one individual has been escorted for questioning and that further investigative procedures are underway to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, investigators continue efforts to legally document the case and identify any additional individuals involved.

The investigation remains ongoing.
