25 Police Officers Sentenced for Smuggling at Morina Border

Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption (GJKKO) has found guilty of 25 of the 32 police officers arrested for corruption in Morina border crossing point. 

GJKKO acquitted 7 officers for this matter. While for the other 25 defendants, the court sentenced them from 1 to 1.8 years in prison. Likewise, the court suspended the prison sentence, ordering their release and putting them on probation for 2 years and 8 months. 

The operation to arrest the policemen took place last April, where, according to SPAK, 312 cases of corrupt actions of police officers were documented, who favored various persons for the introduction of contraband goods, persons who trafficked vehicles, other items of illegal, as well as helping various persons with legal problems to cross the border for their entry and exit to EU countries.
