Albania Kicks Off New School Year amid COVID-19 Measures

Albania kicked off its new school year 2020-2021, in an unusual situation amid coronavirus restrictive measures.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a special safety protocol will be followed in schools, in such a way as to minimize the spread of the virus.

Thus, unlike other years, this school year will take place for some schools with 2, 3 or even 4 shifts, in such a way that the influx of students is smaller in the classrooms, as in the banks only one child can be sit in one bank and all students and pupils must be equipped with masks.

It is reported that there are about 30.000 teachers engaged for the new school year, while teaching will not start in all schools, as some of them are in the reconstruction phase due to damage from the earthquake.

A day before the start of the new school year and the reopening of classrooms, the Minister of Education, Besa Shahini recalled the importance of anti-COVID measures. Shahini stressed that "a new normalcy awaits students".
