Albania will suspend construction activities in tourist areas starting Thursday, July 23, as part of new measures aimed at protecting the country's tourism season and improving conditions for visitors, according to ruling Socialist Party lawmaker Taulant Balla.

Balla, head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, said in a social media post that amendments to the country’s tourism law will be discussed during the upcoming parliamentary session. The proposed legislation includes a ban on construction works in coastal and tourist areas during the peak tourism period.

The changes also prohibit the installation of fences, walls, barriers or any other temporary or permanent physical structures that restrict public access to the coastline.

“Starting tomorrow, construction works in tourist areas will be suspended during the tourist season,” Balla said, adding that the new rules are intended to guarantee better conditions and free access to beaches for visitors.

The Socialist Party introduced the draft amendments during a parliamentary session on July 16, arguing that the measures would help improve the quality of tourism services and protect public access to Albania’s coastline.

The proposal comes as Albania enters its busiest tourism period, with authorities seeking to balance continued development with the preservation of coastal areas and visitor experience.
