Klevis Qose, Director General of Albania’s Police Oversight Agency, met with Paolo Zampolli, the United States President’s Special Envoy for Global Partnerships, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in the fields of security and intelligence.

During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the strong ties between Albania and the United States, as well as the contribution and expertise of U.S. partners in strengthening intelligence and security cooperation.

Qose said Zampolli conveyed President Donald Trump’s position on fentanyl, which the U.S. president has described as one of the most dangerous drugs and a serious threat to human life because of its devastating effects and the large number of deaths associated with it.

The Albanian official stressed the importance of prevention, information sharing and closer cooperation between Albanian institutions and their U.S. counterparts in addressing the threat.

The meeting also touched on the arrival of a new U.S. ambassador to Albania, which was described as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation and coordination between the two countries, particularly in the area of security.

“Albania and the United States remain important and trusted partners, united by a strategic relationship and a shared commitment to strengthening security and combating organized crime and drug trafficking,” the Police Oversight Agency said in a statement.

The discussions come as Albania and the United States continue to emphasize cooperation on security, organized crime and drug trafficking as key areas of their strategic partnership.
