Albania-US Diplomatic Relations, Ambassador Kim Says 'Torch Was Lit' On July 28

Ambassador of the United States to Albania, Yuri Kim has commemorated Thursday the establishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and US, saying that "a torch was lit on July 28, 1922".

Through the social media, the diplomat underlined that courageous Albanians kept the fire lit 100 years ago alive even through the dark days of communist dictatorship, as she confirmed participation in Tirana events, including the concert at Skanderbeg Square.

"On July 28, 1922, US & AL established diplomatic relations. A torch was lit that day. Even through the dark days of dictatorship, brave Albanians keep the fire alive. Today, that torch burns brighter than ever. Let it illuminate our way forward, together, for the next 100 yrs!

Looking forward to joining Albanian friends for special events in Tirana (including concert tonight at Skanderbeg Square) and sharing special messages from American friends in Washington and Dallas (stay tuned!)", tweeted the US Ambassador.

Nevertheless, diplomatic relations between the United States of America and Albania were established on July 28, 1922, and they were restored on March 15, 1991, after a break of 52 years.

Albania-USA relations begin in the early years of the 20th century, when American President Woodrow Wilson offered the necessary and indispensable support to the new Albanian state, for its recognition.
