Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said Saturday that the wildfire situation in the areas of Fier and Himara is currently under control, following a difficult night as fires affected the two regions.

Rama said there was currently no danger to residents or populated areas, while authorities remain on the ground monitoring the situation and assessing the damage.

“Himara and Fier went through a very difficult night last night,” Rama said.

“Currently, the situation is under control and there is no danger to residents or populated areas. The responsible structures continue their work on the ground to monitor the situation and assess the damage.”

According to Rama, local authorities will continue identifying and evaluating the damage caused by the fires, while also determining which cases require urgent assistance.

“The municipality will continue the identification and assessment of the damage, as well as identifying cases that need urgent assistance,” Rama said.
