Albanian Diplomat Leaves UN Meeting during Russian Envoy's Speech

The diplomats of the USA, Britain, Albania and Malta have left the meeting of the Security Council at the UN, after the Russian envoy Maria Lvova Velova, through a Skype connection, spoke about children's rights.

At the moment when Velova started talking about the evacuation of children from conflict zones, the Albanian diplomat left the Council, joining his colleagues from the USA, Britain and Malta.

The Albanian diplomatic mission at the UN described the speech of the Russian representative as a cynical provocation.

"Belova is under an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, accused of deportation and illegal transfer of Ukrainian children. Instead of speaking at the UN about the situation of children in Ukraine, she should appear in a court to answer the very serious charges brought against her."

Britain and the US have rejected an informal meeting on Ukraine called by Russia to focus on evacuating children from conflict zones, with US ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield saying: "We left so that Lvova-Belova would not had an international podium to spread disinformation and defend its horrific actions in Ukraine”.

We recall that last month, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lvova-Belova, accusing them of illegal deportation of children from Ukraine and illegal transfer of people to Russia from Ukraine since the invasion of Russia in February.
