Albanian Opposition Supporters Gather for 28th Anti-government Protest

Supporters of Albania's opposition began gathering in Tirana's Skanderbeg Square on Saturday for what organizers described as their 28th nationwide protest against Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Protesters were expected to march from the central square to the prime minister's office, where opposition representatives were due to address the crowd.

Organizers said the rally was joined by Albanian emigrants returning from several European countries. During the gathering, one protester from Italy publicly alleged that he had lost ownership of his properties and accused Albanian judicial institutions of failing to address his case. Reuters could not independently verify the claims.

Foreign media crews were present at the demonstration, while organizers said a number of members of the European Parliament were expected to attend.

The protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations organized by the opposition, which has accused Rama's government of corruption and democratic backsliding. The government has rejected such allegations.
