Bill for Purchase of COVID-19 Vaccine Submitted to Parliament

The Albanian government has submitted to the Parliament the agreement for the purchase of the vaccine against coronavirus.

Albania has signed an agreement with Covax to provide the anti-Covid vaccine.

The bill provides that the total amount to be paid by the Albanian state is 3,990,000 euros.

The accompanying report states that the adoption of this bill is not foreseen in the analytical program of the draft acts of the Council of Ministers of 2020 and arises due to the urgency of procuring the vaccine against COVID-19.

"For Albania, membership in this Alliance and vaccine procurement through this mechanism provides a safe and certified vaccine. Also, this alternative is more flexible and there are no additional costs for the Albanian state (the final cost is the same). The purpose of COVAX is not only the procurement of a safe vaccine against COVID-19 but also the provision of this vaccine in all countries, regardless of their economy," it is further stated in the report.
