Court Extends Investigation Deadlines in “Bankers” Case by Three Months
At the request of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has extended the investigation deadlines in the “Bankers” case by an additional three months.
According to prosecutors, the request was based on the need to carry out further investigative actions due to the complexity of the case. The motion was submitted to the court by prosecutors Enkeleda Millonai and Anita Jella and was approved by Judge Erion Çela.
The only defendant currently held under the measure of pre-trial detention is the Chinese CEO of the company, Hongping Xiao, while all other defendants are subject to lighter security measures, including house arrest.
The investigation concerns suspected tax declarations and evasion of financial obligations during the period 2004–2024, allegedly causing significant financial damage to the state budget.
According to the Prosecution, Bankers carried out oil sales and exports totaling ALL 532 billion, while declaring losses every year amounting to ALL 11.7 billion, allegedly avoiding corporate income tax and benefiting from questionable VAT refunds.
