Customs Revenues Increase by 5.2%
The revenues collected in the budget by the General Directorate of Customs during the January-February period of this year reached Lek 33.6 billion, marking an increase of Lek 1.6 billion, compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the General Directorate of Customs, the good administration and digitalization of customs services combined with the increase in the consumption of excise goods are the main factors that have brought about a 5.2% increase in customs revenues.
According to the data, revenues from excise goods contributed a total of Lek 912 million more than in the first two months of 2024.
Regarding the value added tax (VAT on imports), compared to the first two months of 2024, about Lek 809 million more were collected.
Furthermore, the Director General of Customs, Gent Gazheli, hosted a World Bank mission in a meeting on Monday, where the progress of joint projects was discussed.
The WB experts particularly appreciated the “Single Window” project, a component of the project being developed in the Western Balkans to facilitate and simplify trade and transport.
Regarding the new project for “International Computerized Transit”, Gazheli emphasized that it will place Albania alongside European countries in terms of simplifying customs procedures.
During the meeting, it was announced that the third project with the World Bank, that of implementing the “Common Customs Point” with North Macedonia in Qafë Thanë, for the implementation of the “One Stop Shop” procedure, has further facilitated customs procedures in import and export from both sides of the border.
