Democrat MP Accuses Govt of Abandoning Pensioners

Democratic Party MP Orjola Pampuri, through a post on social media, has stated that at the end of this year, over 600,000 pensioners in Albania will feel even more abandoned by the government's attention, as according to her, the bonus fund of 5,000 ALL will be insufficient to meet their needs.

Pampuri added that, unfortunately, the pension situation will not improve even for the next year, as the fund is not provided with indexation additions or a social support package that is so much needed due to the difficult economic situation.

She further wrote that even though the Democratic Party presented amendments to the 2023 budget to support low-income families, pensioners and the less advantaged, the left-wing majority still preferred to prioritize increased spending on PPPs and concessions and luxury offices.

"At the end of this year, over 600 thousand pensioners in Albania will feel even more abandoned by the government's attention.

The end-of-the-year bonus fund of 5,000 ALL will be insufficient to meet the needs so that, as in every family, they can afford the increased expenses.

Meanwhile, when the prices of the basic food basket have increased at least, until October according to INSTAT, by 20% to 40% and where, according to the Bank of Albania's forecast, the increase in prices may continue even further, 5,000 ALL will not bring anything new.

Pensioners should be treated with a decent living and not be offered a handout for government propaganda.

Unfortunately, even for the next year, the pension situation will not improve, since the fund is not provided with indexation additions or a social support package that is so much needed due to the difficult economic situation.

Even though the Democratic Party presented amendments to the 2023 budget for the support of low-income families, pensioners and the less advantaged, the left-wing majority again preferred to prioritize increasing expenditures for PPP and concessions and luxury offices.

Supporting and treating pensioners with dignity is not only a fair policy for social equality and opportunities for every citizen, but it is above all a moral obligation that every government and society has towards the sacrifice, work and contribution that generation has made for the development of country.
