The Democratic Party of Albania held internal elections this Sunday to choose new branch leaders in the cities of Vlorë and Pogradec.

In Vlorë, Nada Meçorapaj was elected as the new head of the party’s local branch. After the votes were counted, Meçorapaj secured 496 votes, defeating her rival Darling Banushi, who received 106 votes.

Meçorapaj previously served as a member of parliament and as secretary of the Democratic Party branch in Vlorë.

Meanwhile, in the Pogradec branch of the Democratic Party, Oligert Muçllari was declared the winner after obtaining 247 votes. His opponent, Kasëm Galla, received 224 votes.

Muçllari, an economist by profession, had been serving as the acting head of the party’s local branch following the party’s primary process. This marked his first candidacy for the position of branch leader.

The elections are part of the Democratic Party’s ongoing internal reorganization at the local level.
