DP Accuses Govt of Endangering Media Freedom
DP has accused, through the MP elected on April 25, Albana Vokshi, the Prime Minister Rama of endangering the media freedom, regarding the head of AMA (Audio-visual Media Authority) that is expected to be voted Wednesday in the Parliament.
Vokshi, through a social media post, appeals to the government to withdraw from this voting.
"It is time for Edi Rama to withdraw from the anti-democratic decision to seize the Audio-visual Media Authority through his spokesperson.
The voting scheduled for tomorrow in the last hours of this illegitimate parliament has become a concern for Reporters Without Borders. In today's reaction, the main organization in defence of journalists notes that this decision is being made without the opposition, before the start of the new parliament.
It is unacceptable by democratic standards for Edi Rama's spokeswoman to be appointed head of an independent institution, especially when the government has not yet given up on the censorship law that sentences journalists to prison.
Tomorrow is the day for the government to step down and not further tarnish Albania's image as a country where journalists are sentenced to prison, media freedom is in jeopardy and democracy is even more threatened by an authoritarian regime in power with a stolen vote!" - Vokshi concludes.
