Durres Port Project Will Create 1500 New Jobs, Vice PM Says

Prime Minister Edi Rama together with Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku have presented this Monday the project of the new Commercial Port of Durrës in Porto Romano, which she said is an investment of 390 million EUR that will employ 1500 people.

In her opening speech of this presentation, the Minister of Infrastructure states that the Durrës-Porto Romono port complex will cover the needs of Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia in the next 4 decades.

Among other things, Balluku emphasized that the activity will be supervised by the Port Authority of Durrës and will completely change the economic landscape.

Furthermore, Balluku added that a state-of-the-art technology will be applied in the yacht port in Durrës and in the commercial port in Porto Romano.

"It is a strategic project that will cover the needs of Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo for the next 4 decades. It is not a big copy of Durrës, but a new modern investment that will cover the requirements of the next 4 decades with a technology that has not been applied here.

In this 390 million EUR investment that employs 1,500 people, attention has been paid to the interconnection of the railway terminals. The two ports will be connected together, but also with the lines coming to Tirana. 46% will be provided by the state, 54% by the builder. After this is chosen by consensus. The port authority of Durrës will be reimbursed. I will compete internationally, for all companies. The competition process will be closed in July 2023", said Minister Balluku.
