Eurostat: Rising Cost of Living Worries 9 out of 10 Europeans

The current rise in the cost of living worries more than nine out of 10 Europeans and almost half the population is already affected, according to research carried out on behalf of the European Parliament.

Some 93 percent of respondents said they are concerned about the rising cost of living, with 46 percent saying their standard of living has already fallen and 39 percent expecting to be affected by it in the future.

A total of 45 percent said that there are currently some or major difficulties in life with family income. In December, inflation in the eurozone reached 9.2 percent, the statistical agency of the European Union, Eurostat, announced.

Other major problems for EU citizens are poverty and social exclusion (82 percent), climate change (81 percent), the expansion of the war in Ukraine (81 percent) and the risk of a nuclear incident (74 percent ).

Respondents said they were largely dissatisfied with what the EU and national governments had done to resolve the crisis. A total of 64 percent said they were not satisfied with their national government's response and 56 percent with measures taken at EU level.

However, seven out of 10 Europeans approve of the EU's financial, military and economic support for Ukraine. The results of the study are based on more than 26,000 interviews conducted in October and November in 27 EU member states.
