First Electricity Production Ship Arrives in Vlora's Port
One of the two ships, which were leased by the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama for the production of electricity, has arrived this Friday at the Port of Vlora.
Based on the expectations, the two leased vessels will meet 15% of Albania's energy demand.
The special vessel will anchor in front of the entrance to the Vlora-1 (PIA) terminal and will unload the two generator ships as they are loaded on top of it.
Nevertheless, the ship will produce energy for Albania's needs until the Vlora thermal power plant is put into operation.
In April of this year, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, announced that Albania would lease two ships that produce electricity.
The lease contract for energy producing ships is for a period of 2 years.
In March 2021, the Government of Albania signed a cooperation agreement with the American company ExxonMobil and Excelerate Energy for the Vlora thermal power plant, to use liquefied gas in the production of electricity.
Through this agreement, in addition to the Vlora power plant, it is intended to turn the area into a regional center for the distribution of liquefied gas imported from the USA.
