Prime Minister Edi Rama has again criticized an Administrative Court decision concerning judges’ salaries, describing it as an unusual ruling with significant financial implications.

In a post on X, Rama said the decision goes beyond an immediate 51% increase in judges’ salaries and also calls for retroactive payments dating back to April 2023.

According to Rama, implementing the ruling could result in approximately €130.5 million in back payments. He questioned the legal basis and procedure behind the decision and argued that its financial consequences would extend well beyond the salary increase itself.

Rama also published a table showing the estimated retroactive amounts that individual judges could receive if the payments were implemented.

The prime minister characterized the ruling as an unprecedented intervention in matters involving public salaries and questioned whether the government could lawfully implement the financial obligations he says would arise from the decision.
