Flooding Worsens in Southern Albania, Residents Evacuated
The flooding situation remains critical in southern Albania, particularly in the districts of Vlora and Fier, as the Vjosa River has overflowed its banks following heavy rainfall.
According to local media reports, floodwaters have reached the Vlora–Levan highway, where a 500-meter stretch of road has been submerged, making traffic difficult and hazardous.
Due to the immediate risk to life and public safety, authorities have begun evacuating residents of the Novosela administrative unit in the Municipality of Vlora. Officials said the evacuation process there is nearing completion.
In the Ferras administrative unit, evacuations are also close to finishing, though the process was delayed after some residents initially refused to leave their homes.
Earlier on Thursday, Border Police evacuated two elderly residents from the Novosela area, in a zone inhabited by members of the Roma community. Despite floodwaters reaching approximately 1.5 meters inside their home, the residents had refused to evacuate and were left isolated.
Border Police, in cooperation with Delta Force units, rescued the two individuals and transported them by inflatable boat to the main road in the Vjosa administrative unit.
