Foreign Residents up by 9.6% y/y in 2021

The number of foreign residents in Albania in 2021 was 14,921, an increase of 9.6% compared with a year earlier, the country's Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) said.

According to a press release from INSTAT, the number of foreign residents in 2021 was dominated by males with 63% versus females with 37%.

Regionally speaking, foreign residents of European origin constitute the largest share and amount to 59.1% compared with 56.8% in 2020.

A total of 9,106 applications for residence permits were registered in Albania in 2021, an increase of 18.9% compared to the year 2020.

The main reason for the issued residence permits of foreigners in Albania in 2021 is employment, with 47.7%, followed by reasons of family reunification with 24.1%, humanitarian purposes with 17.8%, and studies with 2.8%.
