From Roaming to European Integration: One Albania and 4iG's Vision for a More Connected Albania
European integration is felt beyond negotiation tables, official statements, and policy discussions. For many Albanians, it is becoming part of everyday life, shaping the way people communicate, travel, work, and stay connected across borders. A recent decision by the European Council to move forward with negotiations on eliminating roaming charges between the European Union and the Western Balkans marked an important milestone. Upon implementation it will remove one of the last remaining barriers to seamless communication between citizens of the region and the rest of Europe.
At a dedicated media conference, One Albania outlined its vision for supporting this process. As part of the 4iG Group, the company continues to invest in technology, infrastructure, and digital services designed to bring Albania closer to European connectivity standards.

"One Albania has consistently sought to be at the forefront of this process. Three years ago, we became part of the agreement that eliminated roaming charges within the Western Balkans. We are the only operator in Albania to join this initiative for reducing data roaming tariffs together with 37 operators from the Western Balkans and the European Union. Last month, we took another important step by launching our new One EU plans, which include data and minutes for use across EU countries. This was made possible through partnerships with 87 operators. It reflects our commitment to bringing Albanian citizens closer to the European connectivity experience," said Barna Kútvölgyi, Chief Executive Officer of One Albania.
As the European Union and the Western Balkans move into a new phase of discussions on roaming liberalisation, attention is now turning to the legal, regulatory, and technical alignment required to make the initiative a reality. Irena Malolli, Director of Telecommunications and Post Strategy Development at Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, described the process as an important step in the country's broader European integration agenda. She also highlighted the role that continued investment and cooperation will play in supporting Albania's progress towards EU standards.
"On June 4, a decision was taken to open negotiations on the removal of roaming charges. Close cooperation and communication with telecommunications companies have been established from an early stage to strengthen operational readiness and preparedness. Cooperation between public institutions, regulatory authorities, and electronic communications operators will play a key role in aligning Albania with European standards and delivering tangible benefits for citizens," said Malolli.
As part of the 4iG Group, One Albania remains focused on modernising infrastructure and developing solutions that foster a more open and competitive market. Through its regional expertise and long-term commitment to technological development, 4iG continues to support Albania's digital transformation and its path towards closer integration with Europe.
