Foreign Tourist Arrivals to Albania up 5% in H1

Foreign tourist arrivals to Albania reached 4.76 million in the first half of 2025, up 5% year-on-year, tourism minister Mirela Kumbaro said on Tuesday.

In June alone, the number of foreign tourists grew 7% on the year to 1.33 million, Kumbaro said in a Facebook post.

Also, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the figure on social networks. He emphasized that these figures are indicative of a "stabilized increase in inflows and sustainable balances in the management of the tourism offer."

"The arrival of 1.32 million foreign visitors during June alone is the fruit of successful work and increased responsibility for everyone in monitoring the summer tourist season," the prime minister praised.

Specifically, in June 2023, Albania was visited by 1,007,033 foreign tourists, while in June 2024 the country was visited by 1,244,967 foreigners. In June of this year, Albania was visited by 1,329,204 foreign tourists, or seven percent more compared to June 2024.

Compared with the January-June period of 2023, 3,396,932 foreign tourists were registered, while in the same period of 2024, there were 4,547,896.

According to Rama, in the period January-June 2025, 4,761,648 results, or five percent more compared to the period January-June last year.

"The beauties of Albania, from the rugged peaks of the Alps, the enchanting coasts of the Albanian Riviera and the Adriatic, UNESCO heritage sites, cultural and natural heritage monuments, national parks, beautiful tourist villages from north to south, culinary delights and traditional products attracted 4.76 million foreigners during the first six months of this year," Rama concluded.

Furthermore, Albania has recorded a significant increase in the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists during the month of May this year, reflecting a positive and continuous trend in the development of tourism in the country.

Data published by INSTAT show that the number of overnight stays in Albania has increased by 31.5%, where non-resident visitors have contributed with an increase of 35.1%, while overnight stays of resident visitors have increased by 20.6%.

These data prove a successful period for the tourism sector and give strong signals that Albania is becoming increasingly attractive for tourists, especially for those coming from abroad.

According to statistics, the majority of non-resident visitors came from Kosovo, Italy, and Germany, key markets contributing to Albania’s inbound tourism. Specifically, 15% of visitors come from Kosovo, 13% from Italy, and 9% from Germany. Poland and France contributed 8% each, while 47% of visitors came from other countries, highlighting the diversity of foreign markets visiting the country.

One of the segments that has seen the greatest growth is the coastal area, which has recorded a 47.6% increase in the number of visitors. This is a clear indication of the growing popularity of Albania’s beaches and coastal areas.

Accommodation in hotels and similar structures has also recorded an increase of 38.5%, while the room occupancy rate reached 28.7% in May 2025, compared to 25.1% in the same month of 2024. This indicator shows improvement in accommodation management and increased demand for tourism services in Albania.

In 2024, foreign tourist arrivals to Albania increased 15%, reaching 11.7 million, the country's statistical office has said.
