Further Details from Rama-Borell Meeting Unveiled

Prime Minister Edi Rama has met Friday with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell at the 2021 World Policy Conference in Abu Dhabi, where they talked about politics of the moment.

On a social media statement, the Albanian Head of Government stressed that he spoke with Borrell about next week 's summit between the EU and the Western Balkans, about the situation in the region, as well as about the deadlock between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

Bulgaria has been blocking the beginning of the accession talks between North Macedonia and the EU since November 2020 over disputes regarding language, ethnic minorities, and historical issues, therefore PM Rama declared that Albania was also taken hostage in this stalemate.

“Meeting with Josep Borrell, EU chief diplomat and mediator in the Kosovo-Serbia talks, with whom we talked about next week's EU-Western Balkans Summit, the situation in the region, as well as the open conflict Bulgaria with Northern Macedonia, where Albania was also taken hostage”, noted the Premier.

Earlier on, Representative Borell revealed he talked to PM Rama about enlargement, the upcoming Western Balkans Summit and the need for concrete results.

“Met Prime Minister Edi Rama at WPC 2021. We discussed enlargement, the upcoming Western Balkans Summit and the need for concrete results.

Important to keep both the reform momentum of the region as well as credibility of the EU”, tweeted Borell.
