Govt Plans Higher Budget Revenue
The budget revenue plan increased by Lek 2 billion or about Euro 16 million, according to the latest changes in the normative act for the state budget. The changes accommodated the excess of the budget revenue plan during the first five months.
According to fiscal statistics, budget revenues in the period January-May amounted to Lek 191.6 billion, exceeding the plan by Lek 7.8 billion. However, the good performance of the 5-month period did not make the government enthusiastic, which increased the revenue plan less than the additional revenue it accumulated in relation to the period plan.
According to the normative act of the government, Lek 2 billion additional revenues are expected to be generated from profit tax, excises, personal income tax as well as from social insurance. Although employment has decreased in the first quarter of 2021, social security revenues have increased. The reason is the increase of the minimum wage to Lek 30,000 at the beginning of this year from Lek 26,000.
More than the revival of the economy, the additional revenues in the budget in the first five months of the year were supported by the increase of imports in some items, which consequently influenced the increase of customs revenues. Consequently, the resources that generated revenue growth during the five-month period are not guaranteed for the following months.
