Greece Reacts Harshly after Court Decision on Fredi Beleri
Greek Foreign Ministry has reacted harshly, regarding the court decision that left in prison Fredi Beleri, the candidate for Municipality of Himara.
According to the Ministry, this court decision is scandalous if the evidence is not irrefutable, adding that arresting a candidate two days before the elections is not in accordance with the law.
"Today's decision of the court, if the evidence is not irrefutable, is scandalous. The arrest of a candidate for Mayor two days before the elections is not in accordance with the law", it stated.
Furthermore, Greek Foreign Ministry emphasized that this has changed the rules of equality in the municipal elections in Himara, the most important center of the Greek national minority in Albania.
"The decision to ban the candidate for Mayor brings a complete change in the rules of equality in the municipal elections in Himara, the most important center of the Greek national minority in Albania.
Such a decision will also affect the relations of the European Union with Albania, since the condition of this journey is the respect of the European rules and the principles of the rule of law by the candidate countries. Decisions like today's that violate the above principles mean that in practice Albania is not following the European path", noted the Ministry.
