Two German Tourists Found Safe After 48-Hour Search in Albania’s Remote Polis Mountains

Two German tourists who had been missing for nearly 48 hours in the remote mountainous region of Polis, within the Municipality of Librazhd, have been found safe and in good health, local authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the tourists were located near the village of Stavraj and are now making their way toward Përmet, where they are expected to reunite with the guide who had been accompanying their group during a trekking expedition through Albania’s mountainous terrain.

The discovery brings a positive end to an intensive search operation launched shortly after authorities were notified of their disappearance. Civil emergency teams, assisted by local residents, searched the rugged mountain area, where difficult terrain and limited mobile phone coverage complicated rescue efforts.

Authorities said the tourists had been traveling through the region by vehicle when they experienced a mechanical breakdown. After abandoning the vehicle, they continued on foot until reaching a road, where they encountered a passing van. The driver reportedly picked them up and transported them safely from the area.

Officials confirmed that both individuals are in good condition and no injuries have been reported.

The incident highlights the challenges of navigating Albania’s remote mountain regions, where communication networks can be unreliable and access to certain areas remains difficult.
