Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides, Block Key Road in Southern Albania
Torrential rainfall on Wednesday triggered landslides near the village of Vllahinë, temporarily blocking a key roadway connecting Peshkëpi with Vllahinë and Poçem for nearly 45 minutes.
Dozens of vehicles were stranded as large amounts of earth and debris spilled onto the recently resurfaced road, which links to the newly constructed Poçem route. Local authorities worked to clear the blockage, restoring traffic flow later in the day.
Similar problems were reported in the village of Romës in the municipality of Selenicë, where floodwaters and mud once again submerged the main road, rendering it impassable.
Residents expressed anger over the recurring incidents, accusing local authorities of negligence and failing to implement long-term preventive measures.
