Independent Qualification Commission (IQC) is celebrating this Friday its 5th anniversary of constitution, as on June 17, 2017 the 12 commissioners voted by the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, under the supervision of the International Monitoring Operation (IOM), officially began the exercise of duty. 

On this occasion, the Qualification Commission has made a balance sheet, according to which it counts a total of 535 decisions, of which 209 confirmations in office, 200 dismissals, 88 stopping/ termination of the process, 35 termination of the process without a final decision, and 3 decisions for suspension from duty (statistical report). 

"The Independent Qualification Commission marks today the 5th anniversary of its constitution. The 12 commissioners voted by the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, under the supervision of the International Monitoring Operation (IOM), officially began their duties on June 17, 2017, based on the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and Law No. 84/2016 "On the transitional re-evaluation of judges and prosecutors in the Republic of Albania". 

The mission undertaken by the 12 members of the Commission was not only a constitutional and legal obligation to carry out the process of transitional re-evaluation of judges and prosecutors, with the aim of restoring public trust in the judiciary, but also high personal and professional responsibility for construction of an independent, just and impartial system. 

On February 8, 2018, the Commission in the deliberation room took the first decision and today, on June 17, 2022, it counts a total of 535 decisions, of which 209 confirmations in office, 200 dismissals, 88 stopping/ termination of the process, 35 termination of the process without a decision final, as well as 3 decisions of suspension from duty (statistical report). 

Until the end of the mandate of the Commission, 270 subjects remain to be re-evaluated, in order to complete the vetting of the full list of 805 subjects (judges, prosecutors, legal assistants). 

During these 5 years, the members of the Commission have faced various professional but also personal challenges. Throughout this journey, KPC has had the continued support and expertise of the International Monitoring Operation, which it finds the opportunity to thank once again. The Commission also expresses its gratitude and appreciation for the role played by the European Union and the United States of America in supporting the reassessment process. 

Transparency, accountability and informing the public about the vetting process, from the first day of work, are considered as important pillars of the Commission's activity. The Commission underlines that during the 5 years of its operation it has carried out the re-evaluation process with impartiality, professionalism and high commitment. In the future, even with the extension of the constitutional term by the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, each of the members of the body will continue with dedication, staying faithful to the Constitution and the laws, to reward the public trust", underlined the IQC.
