Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who is being held in detention, has made a series of changes to the city’s administration, according to reports from Albania.

Veliaj has dismissed several administrators of municipal units in the capital. Piro Jani and Florian Pullazi, who headed Municipal Units 5, have been removed from their positions.

Other changes include a series of new appointments. Trendelina Jaku, previously administrator of Municipal Unit 1, has been appointed director of the Agency for Consumer Protection. Xhevahir Koçi, the administrator of Kashar, has been appointed director of the Agency for Parks and Recreation.

Julinda Dhame, described as one of Veliaj’s closest associates during his two terms as mayor, has also been appointed as an adviser to him.

The changes come while Veliaj remains in detention, with the Tirana City Council so far not having requested that his powers be delegated to one of the deputy mayors.

As a result, the administration of the capital continues to be carried out through correspondence with Veliaj while he remains in detention.

The developments come amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the mayor. The reported administrative changes concern the management of municipal structures and do not, by themselves, determine the outcome of the legal proceedings against him.
