Albanian police have arrested a 50-year-old man in the northern city of Shkoder as part of an operation targeting suspected drug trafficking by an alleged structured criminal group, authorities said.

The operation, codenamed “High Wall,” was carried out under the direction of Albania’s Special Prosecution Office, SPAK. Special police units, the National Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement took part in the operation.

Authorities identified the suspect as Bledar Cafi. A court had ordered his detention on September 25 on suspicion of drug trafficking as part of a structured criminal group.

According to investigators, Cafi is suspected of being linked to the so-called Rraja group, which has been under investigation by SPAK in connection with drug trafficking.

Cafi had previously been convicted in Italy for drug trafficking and was arrested there in 2021, according to authorities.

Police said searches are continuing as they work to locate another person who has been declared wanted in connection with the investigation.
